Two Ships: The Headless Queen & The Golden Cloud [The Black Star]
The Golden Cloud was everything that their ship was not, gold, gaudy, and obnoxiously large, they knew it’d need a full makeover if they took it—when they took it. Living quarters were tight on The Headless Queen, and, after their last unplanned recruitment—and the audience should in no way take that to mean anything more than “a homeless looking stow-away that a certain first mate may-or-may-not have gotten a little too attached to at the alpha 7 port”—the ship was becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
It wasn’t as though they didn’t like each other, honestly they had found that there was no family other than the band of mismatched, throw away, would-be pirates, that they had all ended up a part of. It was just that—if there was one more argument about who touched whose knife, and what the probability of said knife having been used as a method of shaving the hair off someone’s leg in the—now off limits except to the cook for various reasons, including but not limited to this very argument—galley sink, the captain was going to punch someone. Hard.
They needed more space, it was a simple truth, if they didn’t get it soon, their cook might end up lodging a cleaver in someone’s chest cavity. So, with careful consideration and a solemn nod or two, they decided that the only just and true thing to be done, would be to liberate The Golden Cloud—terrible name and all—from the bored, overpaid, under-stimulated rich people that were currently vacationing on their soon-to-be home.
